Temp of the Month

 

In November 2016 Ascendant Recruitment launched our very own Temp of the Month competition to show our appreciation for the valuable contribution made by our temporary workers. Their dedication and flexibility allows us to help our clients with their office requirements, often at extremely short notice! 

We expect all of our temporary workers to be hardworking and reliable. However, each month we're inviting our clients to nominate any temp who has gone above and beyond or exceeded their expectations in some way. Out of these we're choosing one winner and giving them a £20 Amazon voucher to say thank you! Each month we'll be publishing the winners here!

June 2017

In June we had double winners for our Temp of the Month competition. Laura Stevens and Emma Wilson have been working for different departments of the same company and both impressed their managers Diane and Stephanie with their strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck into a variety of different tasks. They each win an Amazon voucher.

We caught up with both of them to find out more about this and their experience of temping with Ascendant Recruitment.

How do you feel about winning Temp of the Month?

Laura:I feel absolutely honoured to win Temp of the Month’

Emma: ‘Surprised – I’m only doing my job!’

 

What do you like about the company you’re working for?

Laura:I like it, mostly for the freedom to expand, develop and grow in a business environment. The company has given me so many opportunities that could not be found in such a short time through any other company.’

Emma: ‘The people, the work and the perks.’

 

What do you enjoy about your current role?

Laura: ‘I love working with people, internally and externally. Training, educating and giving advice is what I love doing!’

Emma: ‘It’s giving me experience of an office environment, showing me how a legal team works and it plays to my strengths.’

 

How would you describe your experience of temping with Ascendant Recruitment?

Laura: ‘Perfect! Never had any issues whether this be support, financial or communication. Genuinely the best recruiters I have come across.’

Emma: ‘Better than I had imagined, the people have been so welcoming and appreciative.’

 

How will you spend your Amazon voucher?

Laura: I’m going to save it for a rainy day or until I decide on an impulse purchase!

Emma: ‘I’m going to buy a candle.’

Congratulations to Rachel Millard who won our Temp of the Month award for May. 

Rachel’s line manager Tess gave the following glowing feedback about Rachel:

‘Rachel joined our busy recruitment team at a time of significant change and stress, to take on one specific aspect of the work. She is incredibly quick on the uptake, we only have to tell her something once and she picks it up and runs with it. In addition to her main duty, she has taken on additional tasks on both an ad hoc and regular basis.

Rachel is full of initiative. Several times she has heard me on the phone and before I’ve even finished the call she has emailed me the information I will need to take the next step, or offered to take on the task I’ve been talking about.

She has a lovely manner and everyone who meets her warms to her, which reflects very well on the team and on us as an employer. Just yesterday, we had an unsolicited email from one of our most senior managers, commending Rachel for going the extra mile to be helpful to the team concerned.

We couldn’t be more pleased and think that Rachel really deserves your Temporary of the Month award.’

Well done to Rachel. She wins a well-deserved Amazon voucher to treat herself. We caught up with her to ask her how she felt about winning Temp of the Month:

How do you feel about winning temp of the month?

Initially, lied to and violated after being lured into a meeting room under false pretences!!! All jokes aside, I’m so happy to have been nominated and chosen for Temp of the Month. I can’t stop smiling!

 Why do you think you were nominated for Temp of the Month?

I brought some background knowledge with me and so have been able to apply this to the role. I’ve felt so comfortable here that I’ve had no issues with pushing myself out of my comfort zone to help where I can.

 What do you like about the company you’re working for?

At no point during my time working here have I felt like just a temp. The people are welcoming and friendly and really have a different approach to most organisations. There’s a different feeling working here. I feel very comfortable and valued.

 How will you spend your £20 Amazon voucher?

I’m not sure…I’m a bit of a craft geek so maybe something for scrapbooking (I have a scrapbook for photos from my travels).

Tell us one thing about yourself your colleagues don’t know

I hate these questions! Ummm…my little toe faces the wrong way! Apparently I talk in my sleep too – that one is news to me, not just my colleagues!

April 2017

Congratulations to Leah Finch who won our Temp of the Month award for April for her outstanding contribution.

This is what her manager Rachel had to say about why she nominated her:

“Since joining our team Leah has ‘hit the ground running’ in dealing with some very complex and challenging customer complaint cases. The quality of her written work in the form of Final Responses to our customers, which for us must be at a very high standard, is exceptional.

She is currently working within the team as if she has years of experience in complaint management, however as I understand it this is her first role of this nature. Leah is a joy to work with and I feel that I could give her challenging cases and have the reassurance that these would be managed correctly.

Leah has also been going above and beyond, putting in the extra hours to ensure that our customers receive the best service which has not been unnoticed. Leah’s support over the past few weeks has been fundamental to our team.”

March 2017

Congratulations to Neil Peters who won our Temp of the Month for March in recognition of all his hard work. Neil received a £20 Amazon gift voucher with our thanks.

We caught up with Neil to find out what he enjoys about his role:

How do you feel about winning temp of the month?

I come to work because I enjoy work but it’s always nice to be recognised!

What do you like about the company you are working for?

There is a good balance of people and you are treated as a permanent member of staff.

What do you enjoy about your current role?

I like the variety and that I’m trusted to be left alone.

How would you describe your experience of temping with Ascendant?

Cant say anything negative, I receive quick responses.

How will you spend your £20 amazon voucher?

On a new pair of motor bike trousers.

Congratulations to Robyn Flood-Powell who won Temp of the Month for February 2017 and received a £20 Amazon voucher to say thank you for all the hard work!

Robyn was nominated by her line manager Chris, who said: 

'She has made such a positive input to the company, she has gelled well with team and really come out of her shell which has been a  pleasure to watch. Robyn has picked up the work so quick and is very eager to learn new processes, all of her team have said how well she is doing and how it is a pleasure to work alongside her.

Robyn’s line leader has told me she is making massively improvements daily and that she has been a great student always asking the right questions not scared to ask when she is unsure. So grateful you sent Robyn here.'

It feels good to be nominated - it's nice to be noticed.

What do you like about the company you’re working for?

Everyone's nice and it has been easy to settle in as everyone makes you feel welcome - it's a nice place to work.

What do you enjoy about your role?

It's been easy to pick up with the support of my colleagues.

How would you describe your experience of temping with Ascendant Recruitment?

I found it really good, I had an interview within a week, I couldn't have asked for any more.

Some new headphones.

 

January 2017

Congratulations to Glen Harwood who won Temp of the Month for January 2017. Glen received a £20 Amazon voucher with our thanks.

Glen was nominated by his manager Steve for being punctual, conscientious and a great asset to the packing / despatch area under some challenging circumstances. Here he is with Gemma Jones who heads up our Warehousing division.

What do you like about the company you’re working for?

To be honest it's one of the best companies I have worked for and they treat agency workers as equal to permanent members of staff.

What do you enjoy about your role?

It's different to what I have previously been doing. The other members of staff are teaching me quite a lot.

How would you describe your experience of temping with Ascendant Recruitment?

I have had no problems at all! Brilliant!

How will you spend your £20 Amazon voucher?

I don’t know yet. I may give to one of my boys!

 

December 2016

Congratulations to Janet Swaby who won Temp of the Month for December 2016 and received a £20 Amazon voucher. This was what her manager Sarah had to say about her:

'Since Janet joined, she has brought her wonderful, friendly personality to the organisation and our team - she is kind, approachable and has a genuine willingness to help with anything! Janet has really quickly settled into the team and has also quickly and easily built relationships within the HR team as well as with colleagues in other teams.

What stood out for me was in December we had an All Staff Christmas Celebration and as part of this the CEO gives out staff awards for Long Service and Culture Building (Staff Recognition). I asked Janet if she would like to assist our CEO in presenting these awards by preparing the certificates and handing them to the CEO in the right order to allow him to present them to each staff member. Janet did not hesitate in taking up the opportunity and saying yes - she did a fantastic job and I have to say I was really impressed how she handled herself in the situation, given that she was still fairly new, working closely with our CEO and standing in front of the majority of staff in our Milton Keynes office. Janet even got a hug from our CEO at the end for doing such a great job!

In general, Janet has been very supportive of the team during a very busy period and has really helped us begin the New Year in a strong position! She is very deserved of this nomination.'

November 2016

Congratulations to Christine Hazel who won Temp of the Month for November. We asked her manager Amanda why she nominated her and this is what she had to say:

'I am nominating Christine for her endless enthusiasm, humour and patience. She has worked extra hours without pay, she has given up some of her spare time to attend conferences with me to aid her development and understanding of HR. She is so flexible at short notice and will arrange her hours to suit the needs of the employees.'

How do you feel about winning Temp of the Month? Very excited, always nice to be recognised!

What do you enjoy about the company you’re working for? To have such a friendly culture, such a nice environment to work, everyone helps each other.

What do you like about your current role? Offers me a challenge, it’s a role I have always wanted to do. It’s given me opportunities to spread my wings, I am being given new knowledge.

How will you spend your £20 Amazon voucher? Probably gel nail varnish!

Interim Finance Manager

Interim Finance Manager £150-£180 per day depending on experience Temporary Milton Keynes   Ascendant Recruitment are working closely with a company based in the Kingston of Milton Keynes (in the middle of J13 & 14 of the M1) who are looking for an Interim Finance Manager for a minimum of 3 - 6 months. The main purpose of the role is to support the company in the transfer of roles as this current position is being relocated over to another site location in the UK.   This role requires someone full time offering a salary of £150 - £180 per day depending on experience.   Our client is looking for someone who is hands on, has previous experience of overseeing a small finance team and MUST have Sage200 experience.   The Role   To be responsible for the management and oversight of a small finance team To lead the finance and reporting function controlling cash, debtors, creditors and stock management using SAGE Line 200 To evaluate and approve costs and margins of all deals or projects To work closely with Head of Business Division for planning, forecasting and Budgets Month End duties Vat Returns To coordinate and work closely with operational teams on all new projects and sales deals Liaising with auditors Prepare and be responsible for monthly management reporting to UK group company and for year-end statutory reporting Engaging with the directors and other UK and international offices  

HR Coordinator

HR Coordinator 6 week temporary role 15 hours a week (flexible hours) £9 - 12 p/h Milton Keynes    Are you experienced as the first point of contact for all HR queries? Have you got previous experience of TUPE process? Are you available immediately? Yes? You could be just the person we’re looking for! Our client is looking for an HR Coordinator in Milton Keynes. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: First point of contact for all HR queries Provide weekly and monthly HR MI including sickness reporting to the management team Manage the on boarding process Support the management team with any employee relations cases Deal with contracts of employment Experience supporting employees and managers with all aspects of the employee lifecycle Previous experience of TUPE process Strong administration skills with excellent attention to detail.   The successful HR Coordinator must have: Previous HR experience – TUPE and contract management Up to date employment law knowledge.
