Background

Traka has been working with Ascendant Recruitment for over 3 years, predominantly in the production department but also within the warehouse and more recently on the office support side.  Production roles initially start out on a temporary contract, however many of the staff go on to be taken on permanently as the company is constantly growing.

The situation

When Ascendant Recruitment started working with Traka, we were one of several recruitment agencies appointed to fulfil jobs within the production department. Roles are typically for mechanical assembly workers with experience in using small tools and soldering equipment as well as support within the warehouse.

Steve Newell (Poduction Manager) is responsible for a team of approximately 20 staff. He has worked with a number of recruitment agencies over the years, with mixed experiences.

Problems he has faced with other agencies in the past include complications with payroll, being sent unsuitable candidates who had not been properly vetted by the agency and overly-persistent consultants who weren’t always working in his best interest.

Steve felt that working with multiple agencies sometimes complicated the process and could be more time consuming for him. He wanted to work with ideally just one recruitment agency who understood the kind of person Traka looked for and was able to provide a consistently responsive, friendly service with suitable high quality candidates.

What did Ascendant Recruitment do?

David Forbes was initially the main Ascendant Recruitment point of contact for Traka. When Gemma Jones came on board in August 2016 to focus solely on industrial recruitment, she took over the day-to-day relationship with Traka.  

Gemma has taken the time to get a real understanding of Traka and the kind of people they look for. She schedules regular calls and meetings with Steve and the team to make sure everything is running smoothly and she’s made aware of any changes and developments within the department. The knowledge she has built has also meant that Gemma has been able to proactively seek suitable candidates on behalf of Traka, meaning that when there is a vacancy she’s able to fill it with good people quickly and efficiently.

As well as helping on the production side, Ascendant Recruitment also supports Traka to fill permanent office roles. Most recently they were able to fill a customer service position with an ideal candidate in just two days.

The result

Steve has been so pleased with the service he receives from Gemma, David and the team that he has stopped working with other recruitment agencies and is working exclusively with Ascendant Recruitment for temporary roles. Speaking about his decision to work exclusively with Ascendant Recruitment, Steve said:

Makita

The client: Makita is a leading manufacturer of power tools and has a worldwide network of manufacturing plants. Makita (UK) Ltd is the sales outlet for Makita tools.

Number of employees: Makita UK has 100-150 internal employees based at their head office in Milton Keynes, with approximately 60 UK-based field sales staff.

Sector: Sales, Marketing and Distribution

The situation: Makita needed to employ an Area Sales Manager for their field sales team. After trying to recruit for the role unsuccessfully for several weeks using other recruitment agencies, the hiring manager Andrew Farrell was recommended to try Ascendant Recruitment (one of Makita’s preferred suppliers) by a colleague.

As this was a brand new role, finding someone with the right qualities who could step in and make it their own was going to be particularly challenging. The ideal candidate needed to be confident, target-driven, motivated and have experience in demonstrating products to customers. For Andrew, the priority was to find the right person for the job and he was happy to be flexible on timescales if necessary.

The solution: Consultant Sascha Ross took the initial brief from Andrew and made sure she took the time to really understand the type of person who would be successful in the role. Sascha made sure she stayed in regular contact with Andrew throughout her search to keep him updated on her progress and stay up-to-date with any changes to what they were looking for. 

Andrew chose to conduct a first round of interviews from Ascendant Recruitment’s office, giving him the opportunity to meet the candidates in a more neutral environment and discuss his feedback with Sascha in person immediately following the interviews.

The result: After two rounds of interviews, Andrew offered the job to Laurel, a candidate introduced by Sascha who impressed Andrew with her excellent attitude and her previous experience which fitted well with the job role Makita was looking for.

SB Media Group

The client: SB Media Group

SB Media Group is a growing digital marketing and promotions company, with offices in Eversholt and London.

Number of employees: 16 (the majority of employees are based primarily at the Eversholt office).

The situation: Jonny Brown (Director) had worked with Ascendant Recruitment consultant Sascha in her previous role. He was impressed by her excellent customer service skills so when he next needed to recruit, he agreed to give Ascendant Recruitment a try.

SB Media Group is rapidly expanding and they have been investing in high calibre, forward thinking employees who will continue to grow and develop with the organisation. As a relatively small company, it’s imperative that they recruit people who fit in well with the rest of the team and share the company ethos, so this is always a key consideration.

Jonny had had mixed experiences with recruitment agencies in the past. He wanted to work in partnership with a consultancy who would take the time to develop a good knowledge of the company culture and understand the qualities they looked for in their employees.

Due to company growth, during the last 12 months they have needed to recruit a Market Researcher, a Junior Web Developer, two Junior Marketing roles and a Financial Controller.

Rightmove

Rightmove has worked with Ascendant Recruitment for many years. During this time we have worked with several consultants from the Ascendant team, including Sheila, Abbey, Kelly and David.

Ascendant has typically recruited for customer supporting positions for Rightmove, such as Customer Service and Telephone Account Manager roles.

We have been working with Ascendant Recruitment for such a long time now that they really do understand what we are looking for.  The candidates we receive through are well screened and on the whole very good.

Local school

As a school we contacted Ascendant Recruitment when we identified the specific need for a temporary member of staff to undertake an administration project within the school.

James quickly responded to my initial contact in a professional and helpful manner. He efficiently established the knowledge and skills that would be required by the member of staff he would be supplying and any other criteria that would be required. In our case that was an Enhanced DBS check.

Within a couple of days, James had identified two possible candidates who would be able to complete the work and arranged interviews. Once we had identified the candidate we felt to be the most suitable, James ensured that the paperwork was completed accurately but with as little hassle for us as possible.

The temporary member of staff that James identified has been of an outstanding quality. James has also been attentive during the duration of the temporary contract.

Local car dealership

I first contacted Ascendant Recruitment following a recommendation from my Recruitment Manager.  I was looking for a Receptionist to work on a 6-8 week assignment. I worked with Sam at Ascendant and found her to be extremely helpful and professional. I explained that we needed someone with excellent people skills and a great telephone manner. Within a day or so, she’d selected a couple of potentially suitable candidates and sent over their CVs to me to review. Sam made the process very easy and quickly booked in interviews for the candidates to come in for interview.

The candidates Sam found were spot on and we decided to offer the role to Zoe, the first candidate we interviewed. Zoe has now been working with us for a few weeks and she’s getting on really well.
